sportsoutlaw.com review - part deux

Sportsoutlaw Fantasy Football Forums

Ok, round 2 of this experiment, and we are starting with version 2.4.5. Starting stats are as follows:

Indexed pages
  • google - 10,200
  • Yahoo - 38,700
  • MSN - 849 (not sure why it is that low, has been way higher until today)
I wont concentrate on specific keywords this time, rather referrals overall by each major search engine. This is total hits from the search engine.

April
  • Google - 7400
  • MSN - 6329
  • Yahoo - 1102
Adsense earnings
  • April 2006 - $523.02

Great approach. Individual threads usually form the gross of the SE traffic driven to your forums. The "magic" of search-engine-optimized threads is the ability to rank higher for the infinite number of topics users contribute.

What makes forums so special? Put simply, it is the incredible amount of unique content your members generate for you on a daily basis. I have successfully optimized sites for some highly competitive keywords in my time. However, not one of those keywords, no matter how popular, can compare to the traffic generating prowess of a content-rich community.
Excellent read.

Re: sportsoutlaw.com review - part deux

Nothing significant here, but thought it would be interesting to mention. As of today, Yahoo has 50 of my current vbseo URL's indexed. Just thought it would be good to mention that in terms of how quickly yahoo got this done.

On a side note, for those that dont know, I removed vbseo in march, before reinstalling it last week. I found it a little interesting that MSN still has 2 of my vbseo URL's indexed from a previous version.

Sportsoutlaw,

I know you had an issue with your adsense earning and the archive. Have you turned the default vbulletin settings back on and has adsense revenue come back?

Re: sportsoutlaw.com review - part deux

no, adsense revenue still stinks in regards to my forums. At this point, I am using the default vbseo recommended archive settings, still not 100% sure if I will leave it that way. I also do not have any ads in my archive pages.

Re: sportsoutlaw.com review - part deux

minor update, as I have noticed a big change in google pages.

Google is now showing 27,000 pages indexed. That is over double what I had last update. 5,050 of these pages are vbseo pages, another huge increase over my last report.

MSN - 1054 pages indexed, very small increase. 387 vbseo pages, which is a decent increase.

Yahoo - 57,600 pages indexed, a significant increase over last update. 2,530 vbseo pages, which is a major increase.

This is an update I am seeing for the first time today. Hoping it continues to climb.

Re: sportsoutlaw.com review - part deux

Update for google results. The 27,000 pages from teh last report lasted about one week. More digging resulted in seeing tons of old pages so evidently it was some severly old data. Below is what I have been looking at for a few days now.

Google - 12,200 indext pages, 10,400 vbseo'd pages.

Nice to see a solid indexing of vbseo pages, Google has went from battling yahoo to be my lowest search engine referrer to being #1 and over twice the referrals of any other search engine. That doesnt mean the others have dropped, they have actually brought me more referrals as well, google has just gotten that much better for me.
