Unhappy first getting better indexed, now getting worse

Hey,

I'm running vbseo now since about 1 months. For the same time, I'm using a ranking-tool, which shows me the current indexed pages at google.
This diagramm shows the history:

Even it is not absolutely correct in the last days, I notice a significant decrease in the indexed pages at google. In the weeks before, it was increasing continously. I didn't change any settings for vb or vbseo, so I'm quiet surprised.
Any ideas, what the reason could be?

I have about 450.000 posts and over 30.000 threads in my board...

Regards,

Sebastian

Re: first getting better indexed, now getting worse

The only reason I can think of is that PR has gone down and thus Google will not index as many pages as before.

No, that's not the case. PR still on 4.

Hi Sebastian,

as far as I see, your forums have about 68,500 pages index in Google: http://www.google.com/search?q=site:...&start=50&sa=N
I guess it is possible that a number of pages can be slightly decreased after some time, because google will drop old urls from the index (since they're 301-redirected to a new seo urls), keeping a quality non-duplicated pages *only*.

Re: first getting better indexed, now getting worse

The same happened to me, but after few weeks the number of indexed pages returned to normal (with a major difference: I enjoy a much better ranking in serps).

This is espetially true with big boards, it takes time, you know.

May I ask what ranking tool you are using that produced that graph?

Re: first getting better indexed, now getting worse

Your duplicate content will begin to get dropped which will result in better overall SEO for your forum.

However, if you watch the SERPs closely, you will see that Google constantly changes its results. They will jump up and down periodically throughout the day. Sometimes it depends on which Google server processed your query.

You will find that the trend is positive through the coming months.

Visible PR only updates about every 3 months. Your PR can change but you just can't see it.

Re: first getting better indexed, now getting worse

It's nothing to do with PR - Google has been making changes to how it counts the number of internal pages over the past couple of months - almost certainly as part of its efforts to address canonical issues.

You haven't lost pages - it's just Google settling down.

By the way - worth pointing out that this is about indexed pages, not ranking - they are both quite independent issues.

Re: first getting better indexed, now getting worse

Hi,

me again after a while...

I am still struggling to achieve a high indexing of my pages and I'm still unsure about the reason. Maybe you can consider the chart in of me in the first post of this thread to examplify it.

I'm wondering if the following could cause this problem. As I just discovered, my pages can be reached with the .www. subdomain and without it.

VBSeo is not converting here. Could that be a duplicate problem and do I so get a penalty by Google? Or do you see other reasons if you have a quick view on my forums?

But on the other hand, I see a significant increase of my hits, especially through SEs, since the integration of vbseo....strange!

Would be nice to receive some advices here...

Kind Regards from Sydney,

Sebastian

Yes - I think a redirect from the non-www domain to the www would be a good idea.

More info here:

from this thread:
redirect non-www to www
