Exclamation Wrong character in URL title

Hello,

we get wrong URL titles on our forums when using "Automatically parse links in text" if the titel contains special chars like the german umlauts (äöü).

How can I fix this?

See here for a sample: Grafik in Signatur des OWA verwenden?

"MSXFAQ.DE - EventDisclaimer einfügen" should be "MSXFAQ.DE - EventDisclaimer einfügen"

Thanks,
Lian

Hey Lian,

it should work when "Replace Non-English Characters in URLs?" is disabled. If not, you have to add it manually within the following array in the config_vbseo.php file:

PHP Code:
$vbseo_custom_char_replacement = array(
'Ä' => 'ae'
);

Hello Lian,

this happens because target site uses UTF-8 encoding, while your forum wotks in ISO-8859-1.

Would it be possible to change the UTF-8 title to ISO-8859-1 via PHP?

As we are a german forum, we frequently see this error hapen, a fix for this would be awesome.

Thanks

This looks like a good thread to post my question -
This character:

appears in titles as •
Is there some list of common replacements or some other fix that will handle most of these html character replacements?
I tried editing
PHP Code:
    // ****** CUSTOM CHARACTER REPLACEMENTS ******
    // The following array enables you to select a replacement for characters other than the ones replaced
    // by default.

$vbseo_custom_char_replacement = array(
    );
however the bullet does not like my clipboard on this computer, textpad shows a foreign character... a little guidance here would be much appreciated to help me parse out this, and other, html characters in my titles.

Can you please provide an example URL? What is your setting for "Remove non-English characters" option?

Thanks, Oleg - why is it more difficult than replacing some characters?

Any chance to see this in a future vBSEO Version? Is this already changed here? It doesn't happen here?
I see that this site is on ISO-8859-1, too

Another example of such an URL
heise online - Gegenwärme führt zu effizienter Kühlung von Prozessoren

Hmm, I see.

This one should be, produces errors as well:
Sample: MSXFAQ.DE - EventDisclaimer einfügen
Appears as "MSXFAQ.DE - EventDisclaimer einfügen" on our forums.

How come it does not appear as broken as on our forums?
