vBseo and migrating a forum from 3.07 to 3.6

Quick question ... I have a vB installation running 3.07 in the traditional /forums directory ...

I have installed a vB 3.6 installation in the root directory and am in the process of getting all of the mods and addons properly configured ... so I have a vB3.6 test forum and a 3.07 active forum running at the same time ...

I have a vBSEO license for this forum but have not installed it yet.

Can I install vBSEO right now and have the rewrites work for both versions? I really want to make sure I have all of the vB3.6 functions and addons working correctly (by themselves as well as with vBSEO) before I import the original forums ...

    Thanks,
    Greg

before I import the original forums
As long as you won't use ImpEx you will be doing fine.

Be sure to use the vB upgrade.php process.

Yeah, importing is a HUGELY bad idea.

Run the upgrade scripts on your forums as they are.
enter ACP and change your urls/paths in vb options
edit includes/coinfig for the right paths as well
3.6 is in /forums, go through and move evertyhing down a directory with ftp/file manager.

<grin> ... two strongly felt opinions there <grin> ... two questions:

    1. why?
    2. and can vBSEO handle the rewrites on both installations of the forum right now?

Using Impex causes all thread IDs to change, so any previous links to the threads on your site will be dead.

Plus, all your user's passwords will need to be reset (perhaps not from a vb->vb impex, but on other softwares this is a byproduct)

on top of that, Impex sucks. It's a really poorly written piece of software. I struggled with it for almost a week with next to no support from vB. They kept telling me to put in feature requests for stuff I was asking that to me, should have been part of the misson critical software.

the latest release of vbseo 3.0.0 RC3 is not designed for version 3.0 of vb. its for 3.5+

Basically what it comes down to, is if it works by themselves, adding vbseo will work too.

That one I knew ... so the first thing I did was to create all of the critical thread id's to "save them" fully expecting to have to manually create them ... this forum only has about 20,000 threads and I am only concerned with about the first 20 thread id's ...

Any words on whether vBSEO can rewrite url's while both versions are running?

That would be an excellent reason why to not do an import ...

I've used Impex on three other forums, but they have only been single version upgrades, never this big of a leap ...

I'm not a fan of the upgrade process because for me, it has been a five day process of tweaks and patches to get 3.6 fully functional again ... and I really want to know how well vBSEO will handle it before I open it up to my users ...

I run 14 vBulletin sites ... this is the last one to get upgraded and vBSEO added ... yes, I've purchased 13 vBSEO licenses (I truly believe in this product <grin>) ...
