vbseo going nuts with sendmail since upgrade to php 5.2.2!

wow... i had to restart apache as my site melted...

i noticed a giant mail log today...

in it there are things like this:
    SCRIPT=/site/forums/vbseo.php -- /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i

several a second! how do i stop this!!

    starting to panic!

    EDIT -

    I think I found it...

    "
    Rewrite System Email URLs?
Set this option to 'Yes' to have vBSEO rewrite automatic notification emails.
Note: This option works ONLY with vB 3.5.x or higher"

    What is this about?

still wondering why there are so many...

Some history here... my web site was hacked by spammers....

they are causing a living hell sending out 100,000s of emails from my server.. i am not a unix god... i am trying to do my best....

    any help would be appreciated.

and does the above feature make the the emails sent out show up as anonymous in the log??

That is not related to "Rewrite System Email URLs?" option. Perhaps you have a lot of spam linkbacks registered and vBSEO just sends email notifications as configured in vbseocp. Try to disable incoming linkbacks.

Perhaps... but I would be surprised. I've been looking at the logs a lot since my site was exploited and I didn't see any vbseo ones until I went to php5. I hope that this is at least noted for investigation.

Boy I am over my head here. I am learning more than I wanted to about code injection. If you or anyone else think they can help me, please send a PM. I have 11 years of my life in this site and right when I figured out how to market it and my traffic was going way up, this happened. Crushing.

From what I am seeing, your suggestion helped Oleg. Thank you.
But I still see some in the recent log.
Any other areas that would cause vbseo to use sendmail?

    Also -

I am noticing a pattern in the most recent mail log:

each email send is 3 lines in the log...

    1st line - vbseo sendmail
    2nd line - from field
    3rd line - to field

    Is this normal?

Sorry if this is lame, getting hacked has made me uber paranoid.

    Hello,

vBSEO uses vBulletin's mail function, so in case if vBulletin is configured to use sendmail, vbSEO notifications are send via sendmail too.
It's not being hacked though - the issue is exactly similar to having someone post thousands of messages on the forum in a short period when a lot of reply notification are sent.
