Names with - in them will cause issues... You'll need to add the userid to the member profile URL.

That doesn't affect the - though, does it?- manually edit config_vbseo.php file: set VBSEO_REWRITE_MEMBER_MORECHARS option to 1

The new release of vBSEO v2.4.1 will keep leading/trailing dashes, so it will work in the case specified as well.
