Usernames with punctuation

I have a user named "<((((-<" (a little ascii fish) whose name keeps getting turned into "-" in urls - this is creating problems. When she clicks her name it will bring her to someone ELSE's profile (kAtE-).

How can I fix this? Will there be any negative repercussion of allowing punctuation like that in the URL?

Your options are to
1) use a rewrite style that includes ID's on all member urls
2) enable the setting for all chars in vbseoCP
general settings -> character replacement -> advanced tab
Enable special characters in member URLs ?
