    URLs in E-mail not working

    Hi gang,

I installed vBSEO on Med Studentz Medical School Forum and enabled the new linkback/refback/trackback features. Someone did a linkback to a post and I got this e-mail sent to me:

    Code:
    Hello,

A new LinkBack has been recorded for a thread entitled - Are you a US medical student or trying to become one? - in the US Medical Schools forum of Med Studentz Medical School Forum.

This LinkBack may be awaiting moderation if administrator has chosen to require approval before publishing at:
Are you a US medical student or trying to become one? - Med Studentz Medical School Forum

The originating site is located at:
    Session Expired

    Here is the associated message:
    ***************
    - in the US Medical Schools forum of Med Studentz Medical School Forum. This thread is located at:Error 404 - Page Not Found - Med Studentz Medical Forums.
    ***************

    All the best,
    Med Studentz Medical School Forum

Now the problem is if I try to go to the very last link in this e-mail, the
Error 404 - Page Not Found - Med Studentz Medical Forums one, I get my forum's 404 page. I had set it up to do custom 404's but why is that e-mail's link causing a 404 in the first place?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

It looks like someone posted an incomplete link, or either the full link wasn't included in the notification e-mail snippet you received. It's missing the .html on the end.

Isn't that link automatically generated though by vBSEO ? That format of listing thread title + thread forum + main forum looks very vBSEO'ish, if I'm not mistaken?

That section of the e-mail is a snippet that includes whatever text/link was posted on the referring site. It probably tries to grab the page title of that link during the process of the e-mail generation, which is why it shows a 404 title.

Appreciate the ultra fast response Keith!

Three more questions, unrelated to my original thread topic:

    1) If I don't like the way one thread title came out in the CRU, how can I change that specific one? Is that recommended? Is it difficult to do?

    2) Would you recommend posting the footer archive links? I see its off by default.

    3) I see in the instructions on how to setup funnelling for tracking registrations as goals in google-analytics but when I try to register on my board the only URL I see in the address bar is register.php followed by stuff like ?doemail or something rather than the CRU's i entered into google.

Those are all the ones I can think of for right now -- feel free to move this post to the appropriate area! Thank you Keith.

    1) You can edit a thread title as normal and the thread will still work with either URL, as long as the URL format doesn't change.

    2) I would use the links to the main pages only, as you don't want many, many links down there.

Thanks again Keith. In reference to #1, I meant can I edit the CRU without changing the actual thread title? Or is that not something thats recommended?

Another question I had was how can i change something thats misc.php?do=flashchat to something like medstudentz.com/chat.php or medstudentz.com/chat/ ?

Sorry for the barrage of questions but I'm brand spankin' new and really wishing there was some sort of vbSEO irc channel right about now.... :P

    1) No, you can't do that.
