Unsupported file format and size is too big

    I got the following error

    1.
    Sitemap file size error
Your Sitemap exceeds the maximum file size limit. Please create multiple Sitemaps containing fewer URLs to meet the file size limit.
    2.
    Unsupported file format
Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit.

for 1 I have reduced the number from 45000 to 35000

What should I check to fix those errors?

If you use a long url format (ie, heirarchy with full thread titles) then you will need to drop even more as necessary. I personally suggest 20k as a good setting.

    I have three files: sitemap1, sitemap2,sitemap3...
What is the different between them? The third file is ok now. others still have errors.

    Hey Tran,

Please note that once you have made this change you should delete all existing .xml.gz files and then regenerate them from the sitemap generator reports screen.

Have multiple is expected once the limit of 45,000/35,000/20,000 is met the remaining URL's will go into a new file and so on, sitemap3 is probably fine for you because it just has the last few URL's that didn't fit in the other two.

Please also note that Google WMT doesn't update straight away and it may take many hours for the error to disappear.

I have deleted all the file in /data folder right after making a change. Do i have to do anything to fix the errors on other files?

After delete all .gz files regenerate your sitemap manually from vbseo sitemap cp, then wait day or two for google to take the effect ,Google web master doesn't remove the errors immediately it take some days.
