Question Strange thread redirect to a different thread

A regular member began a thread last night. I clicked on it this morning to read it and was redirected to a completely different thread in a different forum (my very first welcome to the site thread). When I hover over the new thread I see the address, but it is not the address, or even similar, of the thread I am taken. The address of the welcome to the site thread shows in the address bar after the redirect, just as if there was something doing an actual redirect. Do you think there is? Should I be asking this question on the vBulletin.com site?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Strange thread redirect to a different thread

Does the thread show a "Moved" icon beside it? Maybe a moderator merged it with another thread and left the redirect behind?

Re: Strange thread redirect to a different thread

No, although it is moved now to the staff forum until I can figure out what happened. The OP said he edited it several times, but I don't see how that could have made the thread point to the other thread. The thread it redirects to is in a different category and so far down the list that I don't see how it could have happened.

Re: Strange thread redirect to a different thread

The problem happened again. Please someone take a look at what is going on. I moved it to Website and Forum Support - The Floor Pro Community . It is the message titled "1 fish 2 fish red fish blue fish . . .". Click on it and you are redirected to another thread in a different forum (Announcements). I asked the OP to give me a run-down of his procedure:

Quote:
I clicked on new thread . . . then set the title of the thread as 1 fish, 2 fish, red fish, blue fish . . . I typed a paragraph of text and then uploaded my 3 pictures from my desktop. Next I clicked on the picture file to get it to open and took the url info from the page on which the picture opened.

I then clicked insert image and copied the url info from the nav bar of the page that had opened the associated picture. I make the image link then typed a para of text and repeated the same method 3 more times to complete my message.

I then clicked submit message and rather than it taking me to my newly posted message it popped me to your original welcome page - or whatever that page is called.
I have a feeling it has something to do with the rewrite routine on the images he uploaded. In any case, I hope we can work through it.

Thanks,

Re: Strange thread redirect to a different thread

It's got to be because the thread title starts with a number, and you're using a custom thread URL format.

Try using one of the pre-defined thread url formats, and see if it works correctly.

Re: Strange thread redirect to a different thread

You were right on, Kieth. I tried a test thread and posted one with only TEST in the body and the title was "1 fish". It redirected to thread ID #1, my welcome message. I posted the same thread using the title "one fish" and it worked fine.

I changed the thread naming to one of the predefined ones as you suggested and it's all better now.

Thank you.
