Rewrote URL's give 404 on Gentoo Server

Hi,

I'm trying to install vBSEO on a Gentoo server. I have installed Zend Optimizer (and that's working fine according to phpinfo) but the rewrote URL's don't work. I renamed the htaccess ... .txt file to .htaccess and uploaded to the forums root directory (which just so happens to be / anyhow). It gives a 404 on all rewrote URL's, for example /info-and-suggestions/

I tried uncommenting RewriteBase / but that did not help. mod_rewrite is working fine on another site hosted on this server.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Scott

Hi Scott,

make sure that mod_rewrite is working at this server. You can try to put some simple rewrite rule in .htaccess right after "RewriteEngine on", for instance:
RewriteRule simple-redirect\.html http://www.google.com [L]

and then try to request http://www.yourdomain.com/simple-redirect.html

Re: Rewrote URL's give 404 on Gentoo Server

I imported the vBSEO product. It's disabled for now though as the rewrites aren't working.

Oleg - mod_rewrite is working fine. It's setup on another website hosted on this server. There's nothing regarding mod_rewrite in the logs.

Thanks,
Scott
