    Removing meta desc in forumdisplay

    Hello,

I have the feature "Replace the 'META DESCRIPTION' Content?" (in Dynamic META TAGS) enabled on my forums but I would like to have it on for my thread pages only. What I'm trying to do here is disable it in forumdisplay because the forum title shows up in the description as it shows in the keywords tags already so it's really pointless to have the forum title in the description, too.

how should a meta description look???

A meta description should include the title twice within 156 characters. There should also be a sales pitch for the site.

With the forum meta description, there should be either the title/search phrase mentioned twice in the forum description, or included once, then specifically added for the meta description.

So often, people have a "news and updates" generic type forum titles, with no mention of anything that people would be searching for. Yes, certainly keep that forum title. Maybe have another forum that uses the concept. If you want traffic, consider a phrase that people are searching for - "Final Fantasy News".

Then the forum description would be something like "Check out our latest Final Fantasy News and forum updates. bla bla".

Then the formula for the meta description: Final Fantasy News - Check out our latest Final Fantasy News and forum updates. bla bla".

Note that the searchphrase/title is in there twice - Google highlights the first two instances of the search phrase for its snippet. If it does not find two instances, sometimes it will go ... and find the next instance in the text.

Wow! Thanks a lot of the information, Mike. I'll keep that in mind.

You know, I guess I'll just keep as it is since it's much better, as you say.
