    Problem with special chars in pingbacks

    Hi!

    There seems to be a problem with special chars in pingbacks, e.g. the German "umlauts" öäüÄÖÜ.

    Here is an example: Pingback from my forum to augsblog.de shows mis-encoded characters:
    Nachbarschaftspost zockt ab | Augsblog.de

    (see attachment)

    Will this be fixed in 3.2 GOLD?

    No.
    The forum uses ISO-8859-1, the other one UTF-8.

    If you have mbstring PHP extension installed, you can enable this option in config_vbseo.php:
    PHP Code:
        define('VBSEO_RECODE_TITLES',          1);
    and vBSEO will try to automatically recode the text.

    This is already enabled.

    I probably found a solution: in the source the second website has:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" />

    The pageinfo of Firefox says, the page was UTF-8-encoded. Could this be the reason why vbSEO messes this up?

    Do you know a solution to this?

    Do you mean that it's displayed incorrectly on 3rd party site, not on your forum? vBSEO has no control over it.

    That is right.
    But in this special case the admin of the second site is willing to do some changes to make it work. But he has no clue where to change things.

    He should submit a request to wordpress support in this case. vBSEO doesn't pass the title with pingback request, it's being retrieved by wordpress in this case.
    WP has a built-in function to automatically convert charsets (like vBSEO does), but possibly his server doesn't support mbstring PHP extension.
