    Unhappy Number of URLs in Google Going Down

    Hi there!

    I've had huge success with vBSEO and I'm really happy with the product. I upgraded to vBSEO 3.3 about a month ago and have been noticing that the number of listed URLs in Google is going down.

    I logged on to vBSEO control panel and found out that the product key was 'RED' - I entered the displayed product key in the box available and it turned 'GREEN'.

    Was this the problem? I haven't touched any other vBSEO settings and the upgrade was smooth.

    Please help.

    Addendum: Just found out that the number of total URLs reported by vBSEO sitemap generator is 142,423; whereas in Google, when I search for site:<domain> or just <domain> I get only 54,400 URLS. Earlier this count was almost in sync with the number of URLs displayed by sitemap generator.

    How is your actual search traffic doing?

    Although your license key was red, it would not have an impact on SEO. You may have noticed an "Unregistered" notice at the bottom of your page however.

    The search traffic is pretty alright and growing. I recently found out that earlier, any new thread would appear in google within about 4 hours of posting it on the forums. However, now the URLs don't appear even after 2 days of posting it.

    That is, Google isn't listing the URLs as frequently as it used to.

    I saw a steady increase in pages indexed in Google after installing vBSEO, from about 11K all the way up to about 30-40K. However, over the past few weeks it's been dropping steadily. Today, it's at about 7400.

    We know that the index count is imprecise, and we're going to occasionally observe trends due to adjustments in their algorithms.

    The important thing is that traffic is still increasing, even if the index page count is under reported.

    Can you confirm the following

    • Previously, you could create a new thread, search for it's title 4 hours later, and it would return as a result.
    • Now, you find that this does not work for *any* new thread created?
    • Your traffic is still increasing? (or decreasing?)
    Please also check your Google Webmaster Tools to check for any error messages.

    You mean "losing" not "loosing". I think this is just the normal Google ups and downs, along with some algorithm tweaking thrown in regarding duplicate content filtering and changes to nofollow links.

    -> Yes.

    • Now, you find that this does not work for *any* new thread created?
    -> Yep.

    • Your traffic is still increasing? (or decreasing?)
    -> It was bit down for last 2 months, but lately it's started growing. However, we'd certainly have gotten lot of traffic had the threads I recently started listed in Google. These threads had specific event names and I can bet the thread on our forums would have appeared in top 3 for those keywords.
