Notified vBSEO Sitemap not installed, Have 4.0.2 VB Do I install 3.8 or no?

Message reads in part: "The vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator helps to speed up the process of the search engines finding all of your pages. However, it is NOT included with vBSEO. It's a separate plugin we made freely available to all vBulletin users.

You can find out more and download it here:
    vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator for vBulletin 3.6.x, 3.5.x & 3.0.x - vBulletin.org Forum "
I go to site on VBulletin.org, and it says versions available compatible up to VB 3.8.

    Since I have VB 4.0.2, do I
    1. download the 3.8 compatable version and install it
    2. Wait until a version comes out compatable with VB 4.0.2?
    a. and if so, how do I make sure, sign up for, or in another way, make sure I am notified/know when the new version of the vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator is available.

Sorry. There is probably a simple answer, but the answer is not intuitive to me, and I do read and follow instructions fairly carefully usually ;-).

I hope I have been clear and detailed enough to post all relevant information.

(and Yes I am signed up at VBulleting.org, and updated to show as owning the software, the the basics)

Thank You for any help you can offer.

    Respectfully

    Hello,

You should run sitemap 2.6 beta with vb4. It is available in the downloads section.

I have come to the part in the instructions that it asks for:
This area is password protected. Enter your "vBSEO Sitemap Interface Access Password" from admincp:
I do not know what password to use. The Green Key for vBSEO (which I tried and did not work), the vBadmincp password I set (I tried and it did not work). Just don't know which password to use.
I also uploaded the Htaccess file and overwrote BEFORE the two sentences later that said - oh, if you have already uploaded a HTaccess file, then don't upload it.
So, the passwords I know are not working, and I did upload the htaccess file and found out later after the explicit instruction to upload it.
    That may be the problem.

So, Guess I have to read way ahead, (instead of a sentence that might read - If you have not previously uploaded htaccess, then upload the included hataccess file).

So, Wonder what I do now and if the upload of htaccess is the problem.

    Thank anyone for their help.

    Respectfully

So I went back to the vBSEO download, and reuploaded the htaccess file from that download, then when I could not see it, I uploaded the availabel htaccess.txt file, added the two lines of code at the end of the file (RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]), then saved and renamed the file htaccess (removing the .txt extension), then I went to the url, in the instructions that asked again for the password, and used the green key I got with vBSEO - Password failed, and then entered my VBadminCP password - failed.

So that is where I am at.

so close, and yet so far away.

Thanks for whatever help you may be kind enough to offer.

    Gratefully

So, I reuploaded the htaccess (not the htaccess.txt) from the original vBSEO download, then went to the suggested url in the instructions for installing vBSEO (http://www.yoursite.com/vB-root/vbseocp.php), and then tried to reenter the original Key provided with the purchase, and it would not accept that password.
So at this point I am without vBSEO let alone this upgrade for the sitemap.

    hmmmm.

Anyone who can help, I would so very much appreciate.

    Thanks

    K. I went back through the vBSEO instructions, and found that it asked for a password I would set, looked back in my notes, and found it. So I have vBSEO back. Tried the same password in the Sitemap program where it asks and no luck.

So, I have uploaded the old htaccess file that came with vBSEO, but since I could not see the file, I uploaded the htaccess.txt, added the code lines from the instructions, saved the file, then renamed from htaccess.txt to htaccess.

Accessed vBSEO, the the sitemap with the password, and it displayed the scheduling information.

So it looks like I have solved the issue.

    Thank You

    Hello,

If you have vbseo, the htaccess edit is not needed (it is included with vbseo core package)

The sitemap password is set within vbOptions -> vbseo sitemap options towards the bottom. it has nothing to do with the core vbseo product (they are two separate items).

K, well I think I have it repaired.
""but you indicate "the htaccess edit is not needed""
however the installation instructions call for an edit if you uploaded htaccess with vBSEO in the following instrucion:
""Note: If you already have an .htaccess file in your forum root, DO NOT upload the vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap .htaccess file as it will replace the contents of this file. Instead, enter the following code in your 'forum-root/.htaccess' file at the bottom:

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]""
So that is what I did, uploaded htacces.txt provided with vBSEO, edited it on the server first adding the 2 lines of code, then removing the .txt extension and saved.

All looks good, the only question I have is: is there something more to do after the last step listed which is to view

the reason I ask is becasue here as what appears to be the last step (not setting times)
    1. Enter your vBSEO Sitemap Interface Access Password as defined in your sitemap settings via the vB admincp.

""Note: This is a required step for vBulletin 3.5.x series. If using vBulletin 3.6.x or 3.7.x, vBSEO will automatically create a scheduled task at 2AM without having to go through the steps below.""
and I have installed vBulletin 4.0.1, so doing nothing after Entering the password in step 1 just above, is the correct non action to have the sitemap program working? The instructions do not directly deal with a 4.0.1 installation is why I am asking.

    Again, that line
    RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]""
is already included in the core vbseo package. If you now have 2, you should remove one of them.

The sitemap task will automatically run on vb4 as well like it did on 3.6 and 3.7 and 3.8. only 3.5 is that step necessary.

Thank You Brian for your help.

I understand what "again" means. When I opened up the htaccess file, the last line did not read
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]""

and I looked in the htaccess to see if these 2 lines of code appeared anywhere.

That is why I wrote the code as instructed.

I have gone back per your last communication to see if a duplication of that code exists, and it does not.

So my question in the last communication is there anyting else necessary to do, -just if you see the scheduling panel, is that the completion.

That is all - to wrap this up.

    Thank You
    Otter
