    newbie vbseo installation

    Okey...

I am about to install vbseo. I have really no clue what to do.

What is "binary mode"? What is my forum root?

    What do this mean:

    "CHMOD 666 the 'vB-root/includes/config_vbseo.php' file. "

Am I gonna "chmod 666" something?

    show me some mercy people

    Re: Binary Mode

When you transfer a file with an FTP program, their are two modes:

    1) Binary
    2) ASCII (Text)

Files like .txt and .html files, and most PHP files are transferred in text.

However, files like images (.jpg, .gif) or encrypted PHP files are transferred in binary.

Most of the time, the FTP program will choose the right mode. But, for things such as encrypted PHP files, it is sometimes confused (because of the .php extension).

In these cases, you need to find an option in your FTP program to "force transfer in binary" or "transfer file in binary" (or something similar, depending on your program).

    Re: Your forum root

This is where all of your forum files are stored on your server. It could be /public_html/ or /public_html/forum/ or something similar.

A little browsing and you'll be able find this folder.

    Re: CHMOD 666

CHMOD is a command that changes the access permissions of files on your server.

Your FTP program should allow you to click on the file (on your server) from the list, and issue a CHMOD command. Try right clicking the file, and you should be able to locate the option.

This should help get you started in the right direction.
