Moving to new server - need to turn off vBSEO

I am trying to move my forums to a new server by setting everything up on a test board first. My old forums are at 3.6.4 patched and I want to upgrade to 3.6.8 when I get the forum running. Then I can upgrade vBSEO as well.

One of the problems I have run into is that I get database errors because of the original vBSEO installation in my backups. I have commented out the .htaccess lines referring to vBSEO, but I can't manage to get into the admin CP to disable it. I have disabled hooks in the config.php file.

What should I do to prevent any issues during the installation on the test domain (my original website = thefloorpro.com the test site = thefloorpro.net)?

    Thanks for any guidance.

    Jim

    Hey Jim,

What error messages are you getting?

    Something similar to this:

Fatal error: Unable to read 26365 bytes in /home/your/forum/directory/vbseo.php on line 0

If yes, re-upload all vBSEO files using BINARY Mode.

But I don't want to use vBSEO on the new board until the last process because it's a dev/test board. On one of my trial runs, I deleted all the vBSEO files, but that wasn't enough. I still got error messages. Isn't there a way to turn vBSEO off?

Once my board is running and all the updates to other software are done, then I will install vBSEO. Once that is done and configured, I can switch the whole system over to the live board (switch from the .NET dev board to the .COM live board by changing the DNS settings and changing the urls to .com).

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Hey Jim,

I am sorry but without any error messages I couldn't tell you what needs to be done.

To remove vBSEO remove all vBSEO related files (including the .htaccess).

There isn't a turn it on/turn it off feature? I'd like to do that rather than uninstall the scripts.

How can I do that if I can't get into the admin CP?

    Thanks,

    Jim

Using PhpMyAdmin go to your forum database, find the products table, go to BROWSE and then find: crawlability_vbseo

Click the Pencil button to edit it and then change the active column from 1 to a 0.

Save it and it should work.

But, if you disabled plugins via config.php that should have the same effect.

    Hello Jim ,

The best way is to edit config.php and add define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true); just after <?php to turn off all plugins. Once you disable the plugins globally you can login to your admincp and uninstall vbseo product. After you are done you can comment out with // . Also please donot forget to take your vBSEO url rewrite settings backup.
