It takes me to the top of the page of page no. 10 and I don't see the post belonging to the post id you have posted at the end of the URL.

That's because the post was removed or don't belong to this thread.

The post was made today at 11:07am. It is still there although I did edit it. Try this post which is right beside it.
    http://www.4forums.com/political/cre...tml#post330753

The url at the top was in a reported post emal. It has a "-10" in front of the post #.
The url on this post doesn't have a page number. I defaut to the newest page in my forum. It looks like the person who reported that post would see the thread oldest to newest. So when I looked for the url it sent me to page 10 which is old for me. So the problem is users using different ways of looking at threads. If I remove the "-10" from the url it works for me. If thats the case why is it there? Maybe the software should ignore it for inbound links.

Something is wrong because the last post # on the 1st page is 205907 and the link points to 330753.
You should "Replace post number link with Permalink" to avoid duplicated content too.

The problem is accessing individual post. Doing what your saying will totall remove that, according to the instructions.

Replace post number link with Permalink
Will replace individual showpost links with the "Permalink" link. Note: Posts will no longer be accessible individually.

It looks to me like the problem is when users look at threads old to new vs new to old. The page numbers are wrong. This could also be affected by removing some posts which could change page numbers. On the url I posted when I started this theard, when I removed the page number from the url, it found the correct post. So is it possible to tell the software to ignore page numbers on incoming links?

I'm not explaining this well. Here's two urls, the first one has the page number.

The first one works for the guy who posted it. He looks at threads old to new.

The second one works for me because I look at threads new to old.
I think it also works for the other guy, even without the page number, because its just looking for the post number.

I just said that because you have 4 pages (thread, individual post, print version and archive) with the same content and as I understand, this isn't good.

Regarding you problem, I can't understand why you have this problem, since permalinks are created on the fly.

It depends on how the person reporting the post is viewing the thread. If its different then me, old to new, when I click on the url, it will not work.

Yes ... that can be the problem but I don't know if it's possible to disallow seeing new posts first.
You should run a SQL query in Maintenance to set old posts 1st to all members.

That would work, but what I think would be better is to change the software to ignore the page number on incoming links. I'm probably one of the few who look at the threads new to old. So it might not be that big of deal.
    Thanks

I'm sorry for bumping this thread but I'm facing the same problem and I'm not sure I understand the reason why.

I was moderating a large thread (500+ replies) with one of my moderators and when she gave me the url for the permalink of one of the post she wanted to talk about, when clicking it I would be taken to the top of the thread, because we have a different number of posts per page. Is there any way to fix this?
