I have had to disable vbseo YET AGAIN!!!!

The past 24 hrs it has grinded my site to a hault, i've tried everything over the past 12 hours other than disable the vbseo and nothing worked. So as soon as i disable the vbseo my sites speed it very fast again.

One thing to note, mysql was using 50% of the available memory, but this went back to about 6% when vbseo was turned off.

I can't be putting up with this every week, there always seems to be something wrong when i come back for the weekend. I don't know if its my server or not. My server stats are:

You seem to have a popular forum, and a VPS doesn't seem to be able to handle it anymore..

Your available memory (or the lack off...) isn't enough for a forum of your size either.

I am on a dedicated, and have a similar issue, vbseo is very good, but it does en-half use alot of resources!!! (FACT!)

i've just moved to the vps server from a shared one!!

I can't afford a dedicated server at the moment. Would choosing a higher package with more memory help. I'm with VPSLAND.com :: Advanced VPS Hosting and im on the 256 package.

See if you can get a plan with them with 512 MB RAM...that should help significantly.

with 300k posts and decent traffic, you need at least a gig of ram on the box.
hell, your home machine is probably more powerful than that.


I also noticed you enabled streaming of youtube inthe posts.

even though it doesn't run on your server, i've seen this be a huge resource hog.

We saw one of our threads have several hundred guests at once viewing it with a YouTube link and it really screwed over the server, even though it's a dual processor machine with a gig of ram..

You should probably disable that for guests at the minimum. I think it has to do with sending a ping to the youtube server when it loads the video.. but I'm not positive.

I've found them great. Not been down yet.

So I haven't seen the question answered in this thread yet...why does vbSEO use so much memory? I have the same issues myself with two sites running it on a VPS. Seems to me to be rather foolish to upgrade servers for one app...

Usually vBSEO should not increase mysql memory size so much, here are the suggestions to avoid additional db queries:
- include [forum_id] part in URL formats (in case if they have [forum_title] only) to save 1 db query on forumdisplay pages
- include [user_id] part in member profile and avatar URLs
- disable "Direct links to prev/next threads" to save 2 db queries on showthread pages

Also, in the next vBSEO build one potential mysql memory leak will be eliminated.

You guys should make this a sticky because this is valuable info I didn't know before...

This is a very marginal performance increase seen only in the most overloaded forums. Except for the "Direct links to prev/next threads" option which adds two queries for showthread, all other changes will not make a notable difference for most forums out there.

Even the "Direct links to prev/next threads" option doesn't seem to have an impact in our tests, both, load-wise and with run-times.
