Google hates me!!

Something really, really odd has happened this week.

On Sunday my site had 113,000 relevant indexed pages in Google and I was a happy Webmaster

Since Monday my indexed pages have dropped to c39,000 and...here's the freaky part...they are all really old pages (from before October last year) from my old SMF installation!!! Now I'm not so happy :(

Can anyone shed any light on why/how this could have happened?

I have checked VBSEO Sitemap and that is functioning great, with daily downloads, 1,000's of Google bots on the site every day. I haven't changed anything (to my knowledge).

It has happened to many of us, at various times. Google is definitely having issues. Mine has just now starting climbing again after dropping back in June.

I have had index fluctuations before but trawling up all of these really old url's - what's that all about?

SERP tracking has not been an accurate measurement of progress lately. Try monitoring your organic referrals via analytics.

Very important: DO NOT change your current vBSEO settings hoping for a faster recovery, it often does the opposite unfortunately.

Hmmm..yea, weirdly all of my original indexed threads/posts are still "in" Google...I am still getting referrals to specific (current) URL's. It's just that they seem to have dropped them from the site: search.

Analytics is reporting roughly the same as a week ago from all referring sources so I guess it's unaffected by this strange occurrence....
