    Question first new post link

    Hi,

for my forums, the first new post link, isn't working as desired. Sometimes it redirects right, but for most of the clicks, it does not redirect to the first new post in the thread.

    Any advices?

Something with my session handling, maybe?

    Regards,

    Sebastian

    Hello Sebastian,

I can't recall if you were using 3.5 when you first installed. Are you having issues with 3.5 after a 3.0.x upgrade? If yes, make sure you are using one of the database storing options within the 'Thread/Forum Read Marking Type' setting via your vB admincp.

    alright, I test ist.

But there it tells me, that it will need more server performance and because performance is still for me a big issue, i think it is not so clever to use one of the database storing options...!?

I've been using the database New Post marking for a while now with 3.5 and it has always worked fine. Now, with vbSEO, it doesn't seem to be going to the page anchors correctly. This has nothing to do with the new post markers though.

    Because using this link:
    http://www.fireblades.org/forums/off...tml#post380543

It should take you to the page with post #380543 right at the top of the page. For reference, the post is post #60 in the thread and says simply: "What's MCSE?" by user phobiaphobe. It's like vbSEO is somehow interfering with how the browser is jumping to a preset anchor on the page.

I tried it with IE and with FireFox. It's usually close, but it's not putting that post lined up right at the top of your browser window as it should.

By the way, it does it here too:

    http://www.vbseo.com/f23/custom-rule...-929/#post6068

That should take you to post #10 in that thread, posted by "acers". It gets close, but doesn't jump right to the post as it should.

(I just wanted to note that if you are running a high resolution, there may not be enough "page" left at the bottom for these posts to be scrolled to the top of the window. But, I'm using a smaller browser window where the post can indeed be put right at the top of the window.)

Does it jump "exactly to the post" with vBSEO disabled?
It is not exact because browser "jumps" to the position specified *before* the page is FULLY loaded. Then, when images (like avatars) are loaded, the position is shifted.

Yes, it has always worked fine before I installed vbSEO today.

I'll continue to play around with it and see if maybe it's because with all the new URLs, the graphics have to be recached. But I really don't think that's it because I can go to that same link above over and over and it still happens.

Ok, turned off vbSEO. Here's the same post:

    http://www.fireblades.org/forums/sho...543#post380543

Jumps right to it when everything on the page loads. Definately something vbSEO is doing that causes it. I just don't know what...

Turned it back on, and it's broken again. I'd like to leave it on now, so that the spiders can start picking up the new links, but this issue is a bit annoying.

Also tried it with the HTML Cleanup option off. No change.

I guess that browsers may "think" the page is static (the same as SE ) and make jumps before all images are loaded in case of seo urls. I will look into that further though
