Extremely High Server Loads, MySql tables Locking, Internal error 500

The last couple weeks I've been increasingly receiving Internal Server error 500 on multiple pages, then I started looking that the tables and the CPU usage and see that vbSEO is Maxing out the CPU and Locking the MySQL tables.

I have a dedicated server (litespeed), relatively small board, 100,000 threads- 150,000 posts- 24,000 members. The server is the same as it's been, the site is the same as it's been, no new mods (the one new mod I Had installed a few weeks ago, I removed).

Why is vbSEO wreaking havoc on my server???!!

    Has your traffic increased?

Please understand that vbseo.php is a wrapper file and will always show up in the list instead of the real script that it is running.

try rebooting the server/restarting all services to kill off any hung processes.

No, my traffic is literally HALF of what it was in October/November/December. Killing the processes is only temporary- it goes right back to massive CPU load

When I disable vbseo- the cpu returns to normal and the site runs smoothly.

You're using an out of date version that may contain bugs. Please try upgrading to 3.6.0 as a first troubleshooting step as many improvements have been made since the version you are running.

This might sound daft. I was running high cpu on my forums.
I traced my own high server load to the stats programs running on the server
By disabling them, I dropped my own server load by 50%

cpu load avg 200 on vbseo activeated
cpu load avg 16 on vbseo deacttivated

running 3.6 gold most recent and disabling lot of features

it seems vbseo is not convenient for big boards

CPU average 16 is extremely high , you should urgently consider moving to a better server.

Um, Ok- if CPU is ONLY 16 Without vbSEO and is 200 WITH vbSEO- the server isn't the issue he needs to worry about.

A cpu average 16 means that the server is already hammered down and is not functioning correct. If you add a script that uses mod_rewrite on a server like that , the server will immediately spike load levels to 150-200 . That is normal and expected behavior and believe it or not it has nothing to do with vBSEO.

A server should run in the 95%tile (ie, average load) under 2 load in most cases for optimal performance. When you start getting into the 3s and 4s, performance is drastically reduced at a near exponential rate.
16 is a super high number and it is no wonder why installing a mod_rewrite program crippled it.

The long and short of it is that you need better hardware
