Duh ... upload in BINARY mode?

I realise this is probably a daft question for you experts, but how does one upload 'in BINARY mode'?

Until now, I've always just uploaded by copy and paste from my desktop to the relevant folder on my server. Is there some other way I don't know about that is called 'upload in BINARY mode'? I'm so ignorant I would take this to mean I must literally upload it in zeroes and ones. Ha ha!

All FTP clients should have an option to upload in BINARY or ASCII mode. You just need to make sure you force that option to BINARY.

Thanx for your patience, Keith. I presume you mean I go to the CP on my server and look for that as an option. I'll do that right now. I've never seen such an option on my server before.

No, it's an option in your FTP client. Such as:

GlobalSCAPE Secure FTP Server, Client & Managed File Transfer Software
FTP Voyager - FTP Client Software for Secure Internet File Transfers
Ipswitch, Inc. - WS_FTP, WhatsUp Professional and IMail Server
    etc.

If you're just copying and pasting files, I assume you are using something in Windows that just lets you open an FTP connection through a mapping or something, so I'm not sure that you even have the option of choosing ASCII or BINARY in that case.

Yup, that's how I usually do things, Keith. I've gone to my host and raised a ticket on this one. So far no answer. I guess they're still trying to pick themselves up off the floor!

Ah, well. I'll get there in the end - always do. Tee hee. There's always a funny side to these things. I'll get the last laugh. I paid for a year on my present server - up front. Last time I ever do that. Need to go somewhere where they are a little more user-friendly. Like you guys, in fact.

Thanx again for your kind patience. Greatly appreciated.

You should have FTP access to your server. Just download one of the FTP clients I listed above and you should be all set. Your host should be able to provide you with the address/userid/password, or you probably already know if if you set up the mapped "folder".
