Make sure to upload vBSEO's php files in *binary* mode. Most of FPT clients upload them in ASCII by default, so you should force binary mode for transfer.

I had a similar issue with another encoded script I run... re-uploading all the Zend/Ioncube files in binary fixed it.

Hope you can get it working soon.

Update: reuploading the files in binary mode fixed the problem
