    Rewrite + 301 Redirect Archive Pages

    Rewrite Archive Root: /archive/index.php/

    My archive index is modified, I used a hack from vb.org to redirect human visitors to the actual threads, and search engines to the archive version.

    @dutchbb:

    That is cloaking. I would remove that hack - otherwise, you may end up being penalized by the search engines. It will also create a duplicate content issue.

    that made it work, however, it would be nice if human visitors would be redirected from archive links to the thread, that's why I like that hack.

    Hm, the hacker said it just makes a redirect when a search engine goes to your archive, it only views the archive version. He said no duplicate content is possible because search engines also get a redirect when they try to visit the actual thread.

    Human visitors, when clicking a google link, always get redirected from archive pages to the actual thread.

    So I would think this is ok. Maybe I can use one of the two, disable vbseo archive redirects? Or the other?

    my page rank actually did go down for a very important keyword. From page 2 to 6! So you could be right that this hack was penalized by google!

    Bad news for me, but I only use vbseo now so I hope to get back up soon....

    BTW: is it possible that google don't want a site to get too high, too fast? I seems like with all the seo I did the last months, google sees this as "overdoing it" and I get the opposite effect :s

    @dutchbb:

    Any time you provide the search engines with a different page than what would be provided to a web surfer, you are technically cloaking and may be setting yourself up for penalties. Since it is so easily for the them to detect cloaking, I think it is far too risky to take this blackhat approach.

    I do not think that Google is preventing you from rising too quickly. Of course, there are sandbox issues for new sites as well as reported over optimization penalties. But, it is more likely that you did something to your content whether blackhat or otherwise that Google did not like.

    vBSEO will help you. Just make sure you examine your forum template, etc. to make sure everything is organized well (and stay away from blackhat techniques).

    Quick tips:

    - Move as much Javascript as you can into an external .js file.
    - Move your thread titles above your "Sponsor" box at the top.
    - Considering using a floating <DIV> for your "Sponsor" box. The goal is to keep it in a prominent position where you have it, yet situation the text in the code in a less prominent position.
    - You might want to reconsider using the reciprical linking set-up you have in place at the bottom of your forum homepage. It potential for getting you penalitized is a subject of debate, but sometimes it's better to be safe than sorry.

    Ok, it must be that hack from vbulletin then. Well have to lurn from my mistakes I guess...

    Quick tips:

    1- Move as much Javascript as you can into an external .js file.
    2- Move your thread titles above your "Sponsor" box at the top.
    3- Considering using a floating <DIV> for your "Sponsor" box. The goal is to keep it in a prominent position where you have it, yet situation the text in the code in a less prominent position.

    1- ok, well i use a banner ad on the right top and bottom (phpads), I have no idea however how to put that in a extern file. Are there other vbulletin javascript code that can be put in a file?

    2- ok
    3- don't know how floating divs work but thanks for this tip , I will find out how to do that If I understand correctly, you are saying the table is making it too prominent so spiders neglect the more important thread content?
    4- This I don't understand. I have the vb footer links and the link-vault links? The link vault was a tip from this forum. Why would they penalize that? If you mean something else, please explain.

    BTW: I was thinking of putting vb sitemap/archive links on forumhome in the footer, so spiders find them even better, would that be a good idea? And what about making the links white, so they don't clutter up my footer, is that a blackhat approach?

    Thanks
