Unhappy Any ideas why Google is avoiding my site?

It reads the sitemaps, it comes and looks at a couple of pages, then it leaves. No errors/blocked URLs shown in my Google webmaster account either.

I used to have a LOT of pages indexed in Google, and now it's down to almost nothing.

    See attached logs/reports.

    Hi,

as I see from sitemap downloads log, googlebot only gets sitemap_index file currently.

Please try to add sitemap_1.xml.gz file manually to your google webmaster account to ensure it will be downloaded faster (as I noticed, it takes quite some time for google to start downloading files included in the index).

That still doesn't explain why Google visits my site, looks at a few showthreads, etc, then leaves....

Sure, that's just a note based on the logs you attached.

    I have the same problem.

So I have like 6 of these, should I manually try to add them all?

Yeah, I went ahead and added it. I just don't know why Google is getting there, sniffs around a bit, then leaves, when all the rest are sucking in everything they can get their hands on. Check out the Jeeves stats.

Google has hit 400 pages today already. That's a new record for the recent past.

Yes, it's a good idea to add all sitemap files manually to your google webmaster account.

Well, Google is up to 1,800 pages for today.

I also just now started including showpost and member profiles in the sitemap, which took it from ~30,000 URLs to about ~380,000 URLs, and added those additional sitemap files to my Google webmaster account.

I posted the same concern sometime ago, your welcome to read your response to my concern: vBSEO and other search engines

Using the vBSEO site map, google comes by every couple of days. Never spends much time there, but every few days they arrive.

I was up to 11,500 now I'm back down to an all time low of 276. Oh well

It seemed to make a difference when I added all the individual sitemap files.

Although I don't see why I should have to do that, but I'll try that and see what happens.

I think it is hard to evaluate anything going on with google right now. Since the jagger update started, things have been completely unstable with google. Bot traffic has been impossible to figure out.

I honestly wouldnt try make any sense of what is happening with google until the beginning of the year. I have nothing substantial to back up my thoughts, but it is my opinion that google screwed something up really badly with this last update and it will just take time to get things fixed correctly. I am still getting swings of over 100 positions in the SERPS, back and forth. That was happening before I started using vbseo

Since I added all 6 sitemap xml's I have been getting crawled and went up from a low of 896 links on Google two days ago to over 11,000. They're still crawling.

I high since I blew away my old static html pages a couple months ago.
