    404 Errors

When I click on the links to my forums, I keep getting 404 errors. I have already removed the "#"

    Code:
    # Some servers require the Rewritebase directive to be

    # enabled (remove '#' at the beginning to activate)

    # Please note: when enabled, you must include the path

    # to your root vB folder (i.e. RewriteBase /forums)

    RewriteBase /home/localrac/public_html
Does this need to be the forums root or my index root, I have tried both..

Is there another setting that needs to be done?

I find no install manual and very little documentation with this software.

    OK I found the
    Rewrite Forum URLs?
Set this option to "Yes" to have forum URLs rewritten.

But will this software not work for what it is intended with this feature, off?

    It should be:

    RewriteBase /

Or either none at all (ie, commented out)

You don't want to have forum or thread URLs "not" rewritten. They need to be rewritten, and it needs to be corrected so that they work.

Please open a support ticket with FTP login info and your vBSEO Control Panel password.

    Thanks.

Fixed via support ticket. vBSEO's .htaccess file wasn't in the forums directory.

You don't upload the htaccess folder, you need to upload the .htaccess file to your forum root, and you shouldn't have to modify it at all. (See the README in the docs directory for step by step installation instructions.)

lol, I swear it said folder (and thought to myself, "that's odd that they would want the folder and not just the file, oh well.") but I went back to the readme and sure enough it does say file.

Thanks, that fixed it... now if I could just get my custom rewrite rules fixed for vbadvanced links directory I'd be set

    Same problem

I have the same 404 problem for the site map file. Also I click "Run sitemap generator" and it runs but no report ever comes up in the list. I've addd the "#RewriteBase /forums" thing to my .htaccess in the site root as well as the forums root but no luck.

So what else can I try?

    Hello,

you may need to increase max_execution_time setting in your php configuration and execute Sitemap Generator again.

Thanks, I'll look into that. But the create sitemap script doesn't take very long to run so I wouldn't think it times out, and it seems to finish running like it always has. But no reports show up in the list, and I get 404 when I try to get the sitemap file.

I'm getting concerned that this hurts our site in Google, when they cannot download our sitemap.
