sandrose, please delete all xml.gz files.
you may need to increase your wait_timeout or memory_limit settings in php.ini and or my.cnf.

After you have done that, please try to re-run manually.

1.2 million seconds means it never finished properly the time before.... and likely hasn't run for months if not years.

Delete all xml.gz and progress.dat files from /data folder, and re-run manually via vbseo_sitemap/ reports page. Note any errors.

At this point it all appears to be ok except... even though I have left the option of the sitemap blank in the config screen, it is writing the map to vbseo_sitemap/data folder and not forum root. The panel said leaving it blank it will write to forum root, this is not happening for me.

The files will save to vbseo_sitemap/data however there should be a rule in your .htaccess that will make

    yourdomain.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz accessible

Ok, thanks! I did upload the vBSEO .htaccess file and just looked at the .htaccess for the sitemap, the rewrite mod is slightly different.

    From the sitemap .htaccess:
    Code:
    RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]
    From vBSEO:
    Code:
    RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap_).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]
Notice the underscore following "sitemap". Does this make a difference? which rule should remain?

Either will work, the one in vBSEO htacess is the most valid though as all the sitemaps will have the _ in them and it is extra identifier however it doesn't matter.

Well, the result from big G is in... I got a big red "X" and there error is

    HTTP Error: 404
Problem detected on: Jan 13, 2010

I have chmod'ed the data directory at 777 and a look in there shows the maps. Any ideas now?

edit: I now see sitemap_1.xml.gz showing ok with over 1300 urls listed. So let's wait and see what happens on the build tomorrow. Thanks for the help!

Ok, we are 100% good to go. Got the "Green Check" from big G now and pages are being indexed. Glad to have vBSEO and the "working" sitemap generator back again. I have missed both since the move to 4.0 in December. Thanks for the help and insight folks!

I am still getting the big red x's in google for sitemap and I verified I do have the vbseo_sitemap/data directory at 777

Everything looks okay but on Google the attachment is what I see.

Before, I was getting page not found but now that I updated vbseo and reran the sitemap generator it appears to be working... at least I don't get page not found when clicking on my sitemap, instead I get what is shown in the attachment.

FYI... currently using: Current version: vBSEO 3.5.0 RC2 and vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator v2.6
