    Unsupported File Format

Ok, I'm having problems with my sitemap. I submitted sitemap_index.xml.gz in Webmaster Tools and it gave me the following error:

    "Unsupported file format
Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit."

I have read and implemented all the solutions on this forum and nothing worked. When I visit the sitemap directly, it gives me the following error:

    "Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

    * Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem."

Please try upgrading to sitemap 3.0 as a first troubleshooting step.

Hi Brian, thanks for the response. I understand I should do that first but I would like to give you this piece of info. my host gave me when I emailed them about this problem. What do you think is the best thing to do?

    "Hi.

Following is the error I'm seeing with web server.

    ---

[Sun Jan 16 11:13:01 2011] [error] [client 65.99.235.248] PHP Deprecated: Function set_magic_quotes_runtime() is deprecated in /home/ tricko/public_html/vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php on line 70

    ---

I believe, we may need to downgrade php to 5.2 version. Please let me know if I can proceed to downgrade php on server. The present version is 5.3."

Will the most updated version of sitemap contains that deprecated function too? Should I downgrade to php 5.2?

sitemap 3.0 works find on php 5.3.x which is why you should upgrade.

we run php 5.3.3 here and I have 5.3.5 on my personal server with no issues with the latest versions.

Thanks Brian, the Vbseo sitemap upgrade fixed everything. Now, I would like to set the default settings on my sitemap but since I upgraded it inherited the old settings. How can I restore the default settings?

It will always inherit your current settings so that it doesn't over-write what you've done.

If you want to go back to default, you can physically un-install the sitemap via the vb product manager. It should then ask you to delete all data or not.
Say yes, and this will remove all settings.
Then, reimport the product file again and it will load as default, which, by the way, is not optimized.
