    Exclamation "Too many Sitemaps"

    Hello,

I recently looked in my webmaster tools for Google sitemap and saw this error.

    Too many Sitemaps
Your index file contains too many Sitemaps. Please create multiple index files with up to 1000 Sitemaps each and submit all index files.
It seems to be happening on sitemap_1001.xml.gz, sitemap_1002.xml.gz and up.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks!

    1000 sitemaps is absurd.

Have a look at my guide for suggested sitemap settings. Sending EVERYTHING to google is a huge mistake.

You only need roughly 5 or so files per million posts.

so, unless you have 10 billion posts, you need to change some settings

    Thanks!

Using your guide for the settings, I was able to get it down to 2 sitemaps.

cool. you'll notice that by sending them only the good stuff, your good stuff will rank better because it's not diluted by crap.
