Threads not being pinged? RSS feeds.

I'm 100% sure my new threads are not being pinged as I monitor my forum basically all day and I'm not getting absolutely any traffic from Google nor it shows in the who's online page any bots coming from the pinging servers. However, if I ping any threads manually through pingler.com, I could see a ton of bots immediately in who's online. The threads that are supposed to be pinged right now are rss feeds as they are the only threads being posted now. I checked the ping settings on vbseo and they are set to ping and I have entered the list at pingler.com. Also, I'm on Hostgator. What could be the problem here? What should I check?

Vbulletin 3.8.4 and latest vbseo for it.

google doesn't do much for search from rpc pings.... that's mostly from blog services.

you'll get better results when you have real content to index.

make sure your sitemap is functioning correctly and running nightly.

Hi Brian. Thanks for that but every time I ping pages manually Google and other bots come and index pages immediately. Actually I could see almost in real time a jump in amount of pages indexed under site:mysite.com every time I ping my pages. So if I could get the vbseo ping to work somehow... I have a big list setup in the vbseo options. What could be the problem? And no, I don't use sitemaps and can't use them on Hostgator as they use a lot of resources.

By the way, for those interested on a nice ping-o-matic time saver, bookmark this code. When you want to ping a page you have open in your browser, just visit your bookmark code and it will ping your page to all the servers below:

    javascript:void(window.location="http://pingomatic.com/ping/?title="+document.title+"&blogurl="+document.URL+" &rssurl=http%3A%2F%2F&chk_weblogscom=on&chk_blogs= on&chk_technorati=on&chk_feedburner=on&chk_syndic8 =on&chk_newsgator=on&chk_myyahoo=on&chk_pubsubcom= on&chk_blogdigger=on&chk_blogrolling=on&chk_blogst reet=on&chk_moreover=on&chk_weblogalot=on&chk_icer ocket=on&chk_newsisfree=on&chk_topicexchange=on&ch k_google=on&chk_tailrank=on&chk_bloglines=on&chk_a iderss=on&chk_skygrid=on&chk_bitacoras=on")

a Bot VIEWING a page is much different than INDEXING an page.

The sitemap is your best bet. I would suggest at least using them to include forumdisplay showthread urls. All the other stuff is not 100% necessary and can be turned off.

If you can't get this to run on your host, it's time to find a better provider.

Yes I know. I check both, the bots viewing a page and the number of indexed pages under site:mysite.com. How do you explain this? All day I have the same number of pages under site:mysite.com. So now I decide to ping several pages using the bookmark above and the number of pages under site:mysite.com starts going crazy, increasing almost in real time. I switch from "who's online" to site:mysite.com to verify this every time I ping. The only thing that can explain the increase in indexed pages under site:mysite.com is the pinging.

Can you tell me what could be wrong with the pinging feature of vbseo as it is not working? Does a special php setting must be enabled on my server for it to work? Sitemap is out of the picture. I can't use sitemap under hostgator and I believe sitemap hurts you more than help you so I don't use it. I need to fix the vbseo ping utility, if possible.

vbseo pings happen from the vbseo_service_update cron job. They are not real time.

Oh, I thought the pinging was done in real time. I'll check that out.
