Sitemap warning
Can someone give me an idea what this means?

From Google webmaster tools:

URLs not followed
When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs were not accessible to Googlebot because they contained too many redirects. Please change the URLs in your Sitemap that redirect and replace them with the destination URL (the redirect target). All valid URLs will still be submitted. Help

Ok, I did that. Google shows that my sitemap is "pending". We will see what happens.

Will this help with the issue of my number of indexed pages dropping?

Still getting warnings and only a little over half of my url's are indexed now. Any other ideas?
