Sitemap Gen 1.7 and vb3.0.x

How do I manually run the sitemap generator installed for vb 3.0.15? I try running index.php but it asks for a password and doesn't accept either the Direct Script Execution Code or my forum admin password.

Is "Direct Script Execution Code" just a password I make up, or is it something specific I should locate elsewhere? When will I be asked to input this?

For "Sitemap Files URL" do I enter my base site URL, or the URL for the actual .gz files?

I run a large-ish board on a shared server. Will this bog down the server when running?

How would I edit the .htaccess file so that the sitemap is found by google in the site root, rather than the forum root?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Doug,

Yes, this is the password you should enter to access vbseo_sitemap/ interface.

You should leave it empty to have default sitemap path.

It is only generated at the time you setup in vB admincp->schedule manager (daily/weekly). It is suggested to choose time when your board has least number of visitors.

Sitemap in www root

Thank you. However you skipped the first question (and it's the most important one, otherwise I can't test this before setting it up to run automatically).

You should open vbseo_sitemap/ interface and there will be "Run sitemap generator" link.

Thank you.

I tried running it manually and got an error that says:

mysql error: Table '<my db name>.linkback' doesn't exist

Please disable "Incoming pingback and trackback" options in vbseocp (as they are not supported in vB3.0.x).

Thank you. Are there any other features I should disable due to lack of support in vb3.0.15?

New issue:

I can run it fine from the sitemap interface, but when run by vb cron it fails and returns: "Cannot run sitemap generator directly: you should be logged in to do this."

I've doublechecked my settings, and I'm using sitemap 1.7

Also, you can disable "Add Thread Titles" and "Add Titles to External Links" features as they require vB3.5.x+

You should not use "Run" button in vB scheduler, but wait until it is automatically executed instead.

The only reason I tried the Run button was that the cron didn't run as scheduled, there was no entry in the vb scheduled task log.

Did you set that task to log its executions? (I think it defaults to Off.)

I don't see anywhere in vbseo_sm_config30x.php to turn this on, but it did create a log when I ran it manually. But there have been no entries since, in spite of the cron.

When you edit the scheduled task in vBulletin, it should have an option to log that task.

I have the log option in vb turned on, just nothing happens. I just tried it again, setting the cron to run a few minutes ahead, then went to lunch. When I came back there was no log, no new sitemaps, nothing.

I checked my path in the cron, it's correct. And in the vb event manager the event moves to the bottom of the list as if completed.

Is your site busy, and are any of your other tasks executing?
