I've just installed the sitemap generator on a clients' forum, but I'm not able to access the
vb-root/vbseo_sitemap/ at his url.
I keep getting a 404 page not found error. Did I go wrong somewhere?

I did Oleg, still get the 404 Page Not Found error
Please double-check that the folder exists and is located in correct place. Is there an .htaccess file in vbseo_sitemap/ or in forums root?
