Question My sitemap has compression error

Hi,
yesterday I loged in my Google sitemap account and found that forum.orientaldancer.net/sitemap_2.xml.gz
has Compression error - "Error with Sitemap compression. Please recompress the file and resubmit". I decided not to do anything but to wait one day more. Today I see the same error. It looks like G/y sitemap generator doesnt compress correctly. Any advice what to do?

Yep, I clicked "Run Sitemap Generator", and resubmited sitemap_index.xml.gz in Google Webmaster Tools. After some time of pending I got sitemap status "OK".

Does it mean that I have to do it manually every day?

It should, but it is not.

Here is what I see in my reports list:

8 2006-11-14 02:00 6.84 s 27,456 +54 No Yes
9 2006-11-14 02:03 5.45 s 27,456 - No Yes

Looks strange. First it generates sitemap twice. Second it doesn't notify Google... :(

Any advice what to do?

Make sure that in Schedule manager you have minutes set to "0", not to "*".

Please check this thread for solution:
Google ping: FAILED.

In Scheduled Task Manager I can see two tasks: "vbseo_sitemap_task" and "vBSEO - Create Google/Yahoo Sitemap". It is "0" in both. But now I think should it be two tusks listed in the tusk manager or that's what makes the sitemap generator to do double duty?

You should only keep vbseo_sitemap_task. Delete the other one. Starting with vBSEO Sitemap 1.7, the task is created for you automatically.

Oh really? Hmm. Not sure.... Might be. You never installed a previous version of Sitemap where you had to manually add the task? I did a clean install of 1.7 on my site and only got one task.

Sometimes it happens. I'd say even
PHP Code:
<? echo "Manchester"?>
will print Liverpool sometimes

Aha! It looks like someone forgot to edit "readme" file to remove the following:

D. To Configure:
  1. Go to your ADMIN CP > vBulletin Options > vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator
  2. Edit your settings as desired
  3. Important: Enter your Direct Script Run Code (this is also your password for your automated reports)
  4. Go to your ADMIN CP > Scheduled Tasks > Add New Scheduled Task
  5. Edit new task options:
  • Title: vBSEO - Create Google/Yahoo Sitemap
  • Filename: ./vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_sitemap.php
  • Set task schedule according to your forums activity. For instance, to generate a daily sitemap at 2AM set:
    • Day of the Week: *
    • Day of the Month: *
    • Hour: 2 (or any other)
    • Minute: 0 - - -
