    htaccess questions

So I am trying to install the sitemap and looking for my .htaccess file in my vbroot. Can find it, even with hidden files turned on. Spoke with my hosting company and they said the directory has no htaccess file. Could this be correct? If so do I need to make one or what should I do?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Chris,

sitemap files are physically stored in vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder, but you should link to them like if they are in forums root (it is possible with mod_rewrite rules in .htaccess file).

    Hello,

When installing vbseo and sitemaps, is there a .htaccess file created as part of the process? We moved server recently, and noticed our old server contained the .htaccess file in vb root but now after moving, the vbulletin folder doesn't contain a .htaccess file.

Just wonderingi if I should create the .htaccess file manually and copy it into vb root.

    Thank you.

Apologies. Just found the answer. .htaccess needs to be uploaded as is part of vbseo.

Also, which of the below lines needs to be added to this .htaccess file for sitemaps?

    RewriteRule ^(sitemap.*\.(xml\.gz|txt))$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]

    OR

    RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]

You should leave original vBSEO's .htaccess - it contains the line for sitemap generator by default.
