Exclamation Google Warnings (URLs not followed)

    Hi ,

last night for the First time after i installed Vbseo , i generated Sitemaps and today i checked the google Webmaster page and i saw these errors in all Sitemaps (12 ones) :

    URLs not followed
When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs were not accessible to Googlebot because they contained too many redirects. Please change the URLs in your Sitemap that redirect and replace them with the destination URL (the redirect target). All valid URLs will still be submitted.

    HTTP Error:
    URL:
    URL:
    URL:
    URL:
    Found: 301 (Moved permanently)
p.s. "Replace post number link with Permalink" is not Enabled .

Also i want to know how long i have to include old urls in sitemap options ?

    Thanks in advance .

I do prefer to replace the showpost links with permalink. This will reduce the # of pages that need to be crawled, promoting greater crawling efficiency.

It's optional whether to leave the old URLs in your sitemap or not. If you do, you should be checking your indexed page count to track when Google updates to the new pages. Once this is done to a large extent, there would be no further need to keep them there.

However, I would personally not include the old URLs. I would rather keep a smaller sitemap with only the optimized page links.

Another option would be to keep them enabled for only 1-4 weeks, and then disable them. This would allow Google to see that the old pages are being redirected, which is another way of them flagging the site for a big re-crawl due to the large update.

Just installing vBSEO is going to get Google's attention.

The only goal of including the old URLs is to try to get those URLs out of the index quicker. Reason:

Just because Google *finds the new page*, does not mean it knows the location of *it older version*. So it would be possible that Google would keep a copy of both the old and the new *temporarily*. As soon as it finally re-crawled the old version, it would quickly be dropped from the index.

I get those same errors from time to time. I noticed i get mine if i close the forums for a little bit, or am upgrading/testing stuff but they usually go away the very next day and everything is well in google again.

No - I was just commenting regarding permalinks since you mentioned it.

Each error needs to be examined in dependently. Sometimes a few errors will occur temporarily due to hiccups when Google is hitting the site. This is not a big cause for concern.

If you have hundreds of errors, then this might be a greater cause for concern.

If you have only a few, they will probably disappear on the re-crawl. Hit each problematic link to see if there is a problem.

If you can find anything specific, let us know so that we can assist you further.

The individual links are getting errors here on my end. I have had the "show posts with permlinks" for a while.

    Any recommendations?

    Hello,

Try to disable "Include showpost URLs" setting in sitemap generator options.

You should remoe old sitemap files from data/ folder, then regenerate and resubmit sitemap.

Individual post pages (showpost) will not be included in sitemap.
