Google says there were errors with your sitemap since upgrading to 3.0

I just upgraded the sitemap generator to version 3 this morning and submitted the sitemap to google because I changed domain names. I submitted http://domain.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz for the sitemap like I did with the old domain.

If I go to the dashboard in webmaster tools it shows a red x for the site map and if you click on the sitemap it says they have encountered an error with the sitemap but it shows the four separate sitemaps below with green checks for the blogs, cms, forum and tags. Am I doing something wrong? Am I suppose to submit each of the four sitemaps separate?

If I go to the url for the sitemap it is a vbseo html page with links to the four separate sitemaps. I am guessing this might be the cause of the error?

It sounds like they simply had an issue accessing the sitemap index the last time they tried, it is nothing to worry about this happens from time to time if all the sitemap's themselves are showing with ticks then there is nothing wrong.

The sitemap appearing as if it is a html page to human visitors is actually a feature of the new version, if you view the page source you will see it is still the same XML file but just has a XLS stylesheet to make it more readable to human visitors.

Ok great, thanks for the quick response. I just got worried because when I did the domain switch I forgot to make a couple directories writable and got that fixed when I updated to 3.0 and resubmitted the sitemap for the new domain.

Webmasters tools has been showing weird errors for the past week, even on non-vb sitemaps. I believe it to be an internal issue with google that should be resolved eventually.
