Determining if Google has downloaded sitemaps

I can see that the sitemap was created in the generator history, but how do I know if Google has picked it up?

Yes, I see that thanks.

Google has yet to download the file. I see that my settings are to notify Google when a sitemap is created. That was down several hours ago. Is it typical to see this kind of delay? When I submitted the map to Yahoo, they picked it up right away.
