    Compression Error

    I have submitted:

    sitemap_1.xml.gz
    sitemap_2.xml.gz

...to Google and the first one is fine and has been downloaded a couple of times. The second one however, has an error "Compression error Error with Sitemap compression. Please recompress the file and resubmit. " next to its listing in my Google Sitemaps page. It has been downloaded a couple of times by Google but this compression error worries me...any idea??

Also, does anyone know how long it takes for the map to propagate thru Google, pages are listed?

    Hello,

when you access the second sitemap file from your browser, is it opened and uncompressed correctly?

    Hi Oleg,

EDIT: Try again in a bout 1 hour - something bad is happening with my host right now :( (This has only happened in the last hour tho)

    Hi,

this file is incomplete (looks like generation has been interrupted). Please try to regenerate the sitemap.
Also, I don't see the index file: http://www.pchelpforum.com/sitemap_index.xml.gz, is it generated correctly?

Good point, no I don't see it in the data folder either. What could that mean? What would you suggest that I do now?

Make sure that permissions are set correctly for vbseo_sitemap/data/ folder and try to re-generate the sitemap.

But I think it's to do with my sites temporary slowness. I will try it again shortly when the speed of my site picks up.

Looks like it is not completed (index file is created after all individual sitemaps are created). I suppose that your server configuration (max_execution_time for php) doesn't allow for script to finish the whole process and terminates it in the middly of the second file.
Good news is that next version (1.7) of vBSEO Sitemap Generator supports "resume generation" feature, so you will be able to complete sitemap generation in several tries even with your server settings. (this version will be available soon)

It shouldn't be a problem, but it's better to remove the second file for the moment, until new version is not released.

I was looking at my Google sitemaps page this morning and noticed that the sitemap_1.xml.gz file is now coming up with an error -

    Code:
XML Parsing Error: no element found
    Location: http://www.pchelpforum.com/sitemap_1.xml.gz
    Line Number 131090, Column 35: <loc>http://www.pchelpforum.com/
    ----------------------------------^
I have re-run the generator a couple of times more but this new problem persists! Please can you help me, this is very quickly turning into a bit of a nightmare and I really don't want to just take it off as I see the full merits of this great program.

    Hello,

perhaps this is older report, because currently your http://www.pchelpforum.com/sitemap_1.xml.gz sitemap file looks good (and there isonly 120000 lines in it now).

    Hi,

So you would recommend leaving it as it is then....it's ok?
