VBSEO sitemaps are submitting fine, but if I go to Google webmaster tools >diagnostics> webcrawl

I get a couple of thousand 404 URLs like this one:

http://www.mysite.com/forums/1000027-post6978.html

I have the .htaccess file uploaded in the forum root.

What did I miss?

its certainly possible to have 404 errors show up and everything be fine.

any deleted threads, threads you have moved without a re-direct, or anything they may have indexed in the past that is no longer there will show as a 404.
it's ok to have. eventually, google will stop trying to hit those links.

Only worry about it if there's GOOD links in there that you know aren't 404's.

I personally have 218 in there, and all of them are OLD links..... like, from 2005.

See, when google indexes other sites, they follow the links from that site to you. it then shows up as a 404 to them.

Actually, I forgot to mention that these errors are stated as:
"All errors for URLs in Sitemaps".

So these are not URLs that google has followed from somewhere else, they are URLs generated from my sitemap.

Thats correct.

That is why you get 404 errors, you should enable vBSEO to get SEOed URLs working.

Lets say that I do not want to run VBSEO, it is disabled and VBSEO sitemaps are configured correctly that VBSEO is not installed.

What would cause this error and how would I fix it?

Try to remove all sitemap files from data/ folder and re-generate the sitemap.
