    Question 3 XML tags have an invalid value

    Hello,

    I have been changing my sitemap setting to get a much leaner sitemap (no showposts, no members, etc.)

    But each time, I re-generate a new sitemap, Google notify me of the three following errors:
    Code:
    Invalid tag value
    This XML tag has an invalid value. Please fix it and resubmit.

    Parent tag: url
    Tag: priority
    Value:
    Problem detected on: Nov 15, 2009

    Code:
    <url>
    <loc>http://www.mythtvtalk.com/forum/general/</loc>
    <priority/>
    <lastmod>2009-11-15T17:33:11+00:00</lastmod>
    <changefreq>hourly</changefreq>
    </url>

    <url>
    <loc>http://www.mythtvtalk.com/forum/tags/</loc>
    <priority/>
    <lastmod>2009-11-15T19:03:05+00:00</lastmod>
    <changefreq>daily</changefreq>
    </url>

    <url>
    <loc>
    http://www.mythtvtalk.com/forum/tags/mythbuntu.html
    </loc>
    <priority/>
    <lastmod>2009-11-15T19:03:05+00:00</lastmod>
    <changefreq>daily</changefreq>
    </url>
    I don't understand this issue as it only happens with these 3 pages when it works fine for all the others...

    Any idea on what is going wrong?

    Thanks in advance.

    Are you on the latest (2.5) sitemap product?

    try:

    • delete all files in /vbseo_sitemap/data/ that end in .xml.gz
    • re-generate the sitemap manually by visiting /vbseo_sitemap/
    • in webmaster tools, resubmit the sitemaps
    • wait a couple until google accepts it. Webmaster tools is NOT real time and it may take 3 or more days for the error to clear out.

    I did try over 5-6 times to remove all the previous sitemap and regenerate them. I then resubmitted them.
    Google still mention this error, fair enough it is not real time, but if I go manually to http://www.mythtvtalk.com/forum/sitemap_1.xml.gz and scroll only few lines (line 70), I can still see the first errors:
    Code:
    <url>
    <loc>http://www.mythtvtalk.com/forum/general/</loc>
    <priority/>
    <lastmod>2009-11-15T17:33:11+00:00</lastmod>
    <changefreq>daily</changefreq>
    </url>
    Then if I do a search on "<priority/>", I can find the 2 following ones.
    So I can confirm that despite deleting all the files, and regenerating them several times, the error is still there in my sitemaps :(

    Is there a way to look at a debug output or anything else to source the issue?

    Thanks a lot for helping.

    I found the error... It is because I followed the briansol guide and used value instead of range. I posted in the thread Briansol's Ultimate Guide to vBSEO that it could be a good idea to add a warning message in the initial post mentioning that it is outdated.

    Thanks for helping.

    That guide was written for vbseo 3.2 and sitemap 2.2 and is no mostly deprecated due to new features. I will make a note.
