    2 questions

#1Should I disable my Archive if im using a Sitemap? I dont see why they need a secondary listing of all my posts..Plus the originals files are just about as good as the Archive. Plus they may penalize?

#2 I added the VBSEO sitemap plugin just now at
    vBSEO Google/Yahoo Sitemap Generator for vBulletin 3.5.x & vBulletin 3.0.x - Page 79 - vBulletin.org Forum

When I add the task in task manager though..theres a thing called "product" all the way at the bottom..It lets me select either "Vbulletin", "vbSEO" , or "vbSEO Site Map" as the product... can someone tell me which one I should select?

#3 oops...make that 3 questions.. Is there a way to test run the sitemap before I submit it ? ..like will it automatically be sent out to google once I hit the "run" button...or can I do that seperately? Because im not sure if I correctly blocked out my private forums to not be archived...not sure if I should input the rewritten Forum Id's to be excluded...or the original Forum id's that I had before I installed vbSEO.

    # 4 questions..im really sorry..they keep popping up in my head. the /vbseo_sitemap/ folder is accessable by anyone.. this isnt a good thing.. any common way to prevent access?

    thx much.

    Hello Mike,

    1. you should not disable archive, but just set "Rewrite + 301 Redirect Archive Pages" option for "vB's Archive Options" in vbseocp. In this case the thread links will point to the full showthread version at your site.

    2. You should select "vBSEO Sitemap Generator", although it will work exactly the same with other settings
Btw, please use the latest pre-release vBSEO Sitemap Generator v1.7 if you are running vBSEO3.0.0RCx: http://www.vbseo.com/attachments/f24...itemap-1-7.zip

    3. you can disable "Notify Google" option in vB admincp options and generate sitemap manually via vbseo_sitemap/ interface.

    4. I suggest you to set password ("Direct Script Run Code" in options) to restrict access to vbseo_sitemap/

Thanks Oleg for all the great responses.. much appeciated.

#1 I just installed 1.6 last night.. So I have to uninstall the plugin and reinstall the new one? Was it just a minor issue..maybe I just need to upload another file or something?

#2 Also, Im really hesitant on the whole private forum thing.. I dont know which Forum ID's to exclude. I have 3 different forum ID's... The Forum ID before vbSEO was ever installed... And I have 2 different forum ID's when I have vbSEO installed.. I had to modify the option within vbSEO because I had some forums that had the same name. This probably sounds a little complicating.. But can u tell me which forum ID i am suppose to exclude when trying to exclude certain forums.

    thanks very much,

    mike

    1. It's an easy upgrade. FTP all the new files up, when when you import the new product file in vBulletin, make sure you choose Yes for "Allow Overwrite". Done.

    2. The Forum ID would the id number assigned by vBulletin when you create a forum, and that never changes. You can find a forum's FoumID when you edit that forum in your Forum Manager.

    appreciate the quick response, Keith.

About the 1.7 download. the "READ ME" file has a different .htaccess code then the .htaccess file within that directory.

    RewriteRule ^(sitemap.*\.(xml\.gz|txt))$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]
    RewriteRule ^((urllist|sitemap).*\.(xml|txt)(\.gz)?)$ vbseo_sitemap/vbseo_getsitemap.php?sitemap=$1 [L]
which one should i use? I think someone should update that zip file so people dont get confused.

Use the one that is already included in the .htaccess that comes with vBSEO. Since you're running vBSEO, no changes to .htaccess are needed.
