what happens in the case of lapsed download renewal?

What happens if someone forgets to renew their access to the download section for 6 months and then wants to renew? Can they still renew for $35? (or heaven forbid if there was no new release of vBSEO for a year, and then there was one...) If so, does the payment get applied retroactively from when the download access expired, or do you get 12 months from when you renew download access for $35?

FYI We are completely revamping the original system we intended to use. All customers who have currently passed their expiry will continue to have access to upgrades until we launch the new system.
