What exactly does vbSEO offer besides URL rewriting?

It isn't very clear what else we are getting when we purchase?

One very important thing that often gets overlooked is the difference between basic URL rewriting and vBSEO's powerful long tail optimization via link consensus! Rewriting on its own is not enough. A 1-URL-per-resource structure must be created. This is the only way that you can ensure you are fully optimized for a long tail traffic explosion, and this is only available from vBSEO.

As Brian noted, you should check out the demo if you want to get a sense of the completeness of vBSEO. Please don't be overwhelmed by the amount of features. We typically recommend that our customers start off with the default settings, but spend a bit of time choosing (or discussing with us) which URL structure they should use. Then we can optimize from there. The most important thing is to choose a URL format (for link consensus) and stick with it. The rest of the options can be altered if needed.

Once that is in place, we can help point you in the right direction with some additional recommendations. Quite often we do this via our "Critique Request" forum.

You will want to explore our Relevant Replacements, Custom Rewrite Rules (CRRs), Custom Redirects, Permalinks, and Linkback system, etc.

Pingbacks/Trackbacks are from the blog world. When a link is posted in a blog, the site it links to gets sent a notice.

If that site is another blog (or a vBSEO forum), they receive the alert and can post a link "back" to the site that referred to them.

Pingbacks/Trackbacks are very similar to one another, with a technical difference being the biggest factor. Specifically, trackbacks can be sent without including the URL in the post.

Now, RefBacks, are a bit different. These were invented and popularized for use in forums by our team.

RefBacks are created when a user clicks a link to your site. We detect where they are coming from and alert you to the existence of a link that you may not be aware of. This creates an opportunity for you to (a) keep track of who is linking to you, and (b) also *optionally* link back to them, if they are *relevant* to your content.
