    vBSEO on Large Forums

    Hi all -

I am curious about experiences of larger forums with vBSEO installed. I read in another thread that a board with 8k online uses vBSEO. What's the URL? What other larger boards use it? I would really love examples and not just anecdotal stories, if possible.

    Thank you!

    Laura

"large" is hard to tell without an actual figure.

I use it on my site with 3/4 million posts with no ill effects.

Basically, if your server isn't topped out now, you will be fine. The load on my dual opeteron 270 sever went from .6 to .7 load averages after install during peak times.

Hey Brian - It's Laura from BBA.

I am interested in hearing from big board owners - people who have established traffic and SERPs. It's one thing to install on a new board and see improvement, but it's another to see improvements on a site that's been running for 4 years already. Know what I mean?

How were your SERPs before install? Were they okay? Or great?

    oh, hi :P

i installed it on june 16th (and had some downtime moving servers that month too.) The following month, July was my best month ever (and july is historically my busiest month of the year, with the fall/winter being slower.

SERP's went from 18k to about 145k in a couple weeks.

I think my graph speaks for itself.

That's great! I am glad it worked out so well for you.

Anyone else? Surely there are other large sites... Specifically, I would love to hear about sites with over 2 million posts with established SERPs prior to installing.

    Thanks!

I too am wondering about the usage on a fairly large forum, ours has 2.25 mil posts, with 22k users.. What kind of effect on the server can we expect? What about usability and whatnot with existing users.. will they see a major difference?

Hi there.. My forum is about 1.6 million messages. I'm very interested in vbseo but also would like to know from other forums with good traffic/posts/users.

The difference in posts between 750,000 and 1,500,000 is very small IMO. Perhaps, you just started your board earlier than I did.

From a server perspective, the REAL issue is traffic, not number of posts.

a board with 100,000 posts that gets 50,000 uniques a day will never run on a box that a board with 1,000,000 posts and 10,000 uniques a day can run on.

Big or not, vbseo works. it's been proven on here 100's of times. In fact, I can't name ONE person on here who after WAITING OUT THE GRACE PERIOD OF RE-INDEXING had negative things to say about it.

vbseo increased my server loads from about .5 to .6. Negligible at best. If your server isn't topped out now, vbseo probably won't be the straw that breaks the camels back.

If you're willing to take a 3-4 week hit in traffic, for possibly double traffic from after that month forward, wait no more.

If you think one month of waiting on the SE's to get their act together is too much to ask, live with your current serp's and lack-luster placement.

MORE than 75% of my traffic a DAY comes from SERP's. If you can't say that, you're missing our on potential members. End of story.

    analytics proof below.

About 60% of our traffic is from search engines - of that, 90% is from Google. That's what makes me nervous - I would hate to mess that up.

That said, I don't feel like our actual pages are ranking well enough. Part of that is due to not having a developed linking strategy (plan for that is being executed now), but part may be from on-page SEO.

We already do the URL rewrites (not keyword, but post123...), and while indexed pages listed by Google shot way up, traffic didn't change because of it.

I can't find a list of features of vBSEO anywhere... does such a thing exist?

    Thanks for the help.
