using vBSEO just for everything but threads \ posts - porformance side.

Hi,

I'm an owner of a 180K users board with 40K-50K unique visits per day and 4M+ posts.
I'm going to upgrade to vB4 and wanted to use vBSEO for the blogs \ cms and to keep using the forum page as index.php, the cms sections will be under folders.

I don't want to use vBSEO in threads \ posts \ user profiles because most of my visits are to threads from google and I don't want it to influence my server (to many redirects etc'), I've read that 3.5.1 is quite "heavy" for big boards and that every request goes to "vbseo.php", if I disable the rewrite part for the forums \ threads \ posts, does visits to those parts still needs to go through vbseo.php? I want to light things up.

if I've edited a lot of parts in the default style, what should I need to do in order for vBSEO to work well? I've also added a few modification \ widgets too, what should I do to use vBSEO urls in the path variables?

Hello Yellow Slider ,

All your current indexed urls will auto 301 redirect to new format. Thats why you should consider using vBSEO for threads , user profiles etc.. vBSEO adds a little more load on the server however that load is an average of 0.02 ¨ which is not too much. Mainly mod_rewrite causes problem when the server is already overloaded.

vBSEO works with modified and un modified styles. The only style edit vBSEO requires is relevant replacement edits on forumdisplay and showthread templates.

lets say I don't want to use it in threads etc', does a request for a thread will be processed by vbseo.php too? (the urls system will be disabled in threads)`

Hi,

It would be possible to stop it from being passed through vbseo.php file with a .htaccess exclusion but it really wouldn't be recommended, passing everything through vbseo.php adds little to no load in itself it is only mod_rewrite that tends to cause load issues and as Mert says this only tends to happen if the server is already overloaded.


As you have said yourself also your forum and thread pages are the most important and it is for this reason you should want to have vBSEO on these pages, if they are already doing good that is great but you want them to be doing better then you need the vBSEO enhancements, the sort of enhancements you would lose by stopping the script running through vbseo.php as it should.

vBSEO have an option to disable any rewrite setting you want including threads , profiles etc..
