I'm curious... does vBSEO have any benefit if I choose not to rewrite URLs (at least not in the beginning)?
If so, what - in general - are some of the things it would help with?
TIA

no, re-writing is required to take advantage of link consensous.
All your old links will auto 301 to the new locations. you won't lose any link-ins from other places.
Thanks for the quick response.
I know that my links won't break and that 301 redirects will be imposed.
So it's basically useless to use vBSEO without the rewrites? There's absolutely NO benefit -- not even a small one?
I've been reading around and people say that the vB 4 SEO-friendly URLs won't rescind vBSEO because "vBSEO does many other little tricks and improvements". What exactly do they mean by that?
Perhaps i wasn't clear-- it is REQUIRED by vbseo software to rewrite at least thread urls. There is no option to disable it.
vb version 4's attempt at SEO is a gimick. In fact, it will probably be worse for SEO than it is now because it introduces even more url variants and still no link consensous.
Have you played with the demo?

you will be able to see all the features hands-on.
Ahh, I didn't realize that it is required to rewrite at least threads.
Okay, well I'm assuming it's not advised to revert back to the default URL structure after using vBSEO? I want to use it, try it out, but if I don't like it, I would want to revert back. Would that be possible?
Thanks for your assistance.
It can be done, and rules can be set up to direct you back.

I'd advise strongly against reverting back though. SEO doesn't happen over night.
