    url rewrite/redirect

I recently moved a phpBB forum over to vB. I'm using the 404 tool to redirect the old phpBB thread URLs to the corresponding vB thread URLs.

Will installing vbSEO's mod rewrite break this system? Will existing links to the forum be redirected to the vbSEO URLs?

    Hello,

you will have to enter the path to your 404 handler script in "Custom File not found" option in vbseocp after vBSEO installation and the links should be automatically redirected to new SEOed URLs in this case.

Hi Oleg, thanks for the quick response.

However, I want to make absolutely sure I understand how this will work if I decide to install vbSEO.

Are you saying that links to the old phpBB URLs will be redirected twice - once to the vB standard URL via the 404 handler and then again to the vbSEO URL? Or will the request for the old phpBB URL have just one single 301 redirect jump?

Do requests for existing vB URLs hit a 301 redirect, or is the URL just rewritten?

In default case there will be a double redirect - the first one performed by 404.php script (from old phpBB URLs to dynamic vBulletin URLs) and the seconds one performed by vBSEO (from dynamic vB URLs to SEOed URLs). It would be possible to do that in one step by modifying 404.php using vBSEO Functions for Extensibility

Excellent. And if I need any technical support in implementing this, is there an extra charge, or is support included with the license/purchase?

Also, does the system come with documentation for integrating with vBAdvanced?

We will help you with that via support system (no extra charge).

There should be no issues with vBa in default configuration. You could also rewrite vBa URLs using Custom Rewrite Rules.

hello bernard, how did you acomplish that? I'm trying to redirect my old phpnuke-phpbb links to my new forum with no success :(

or is it a way to redirect just the most important old links to an specified new link?

esck, I just followed Jerry's instructions on installing the 404.php files in the tools folder. Read the link I placed in my first post in this thread. I don't know if there is a separate handler for php-nuke versions of phpbb or not, but it was pretty easy to configure it for phpbb.

It doesn't redirect every old URL, just the threads & forums mainly (there may be another, but these were the only ones I was worried about).

Just wanted to say that I installed vbseo today and it was exceedingly easy and intelligent. All of my fears went unrealized. Great job vbseo team.

No problem. I just got the 404 handler patched up using the function extensions. Only one redirect from the old phpbb thread urls to the new vbseo urls. Awesome!
