Test Script

I downloaded the test script but am a little confused here. Here is the output for Zend and Ioncube:

Zend OptimizerNo It appears you are running an older version of zend optimizer. In order this software to work correctly your server will need zend optimizer 2.5+.

IoncubeYes

But at the bottom I get this:
The software should install on your server with no server changes needed.
You should download and install the Zend Encoded version of the software.

So would I go with the Zend or Ioncube version?

Re: Test Script

Here's what I don't get. The test script says that Zend fails yet it recommends that I download and install the Zend Encoded version of the vbseo plugin?

Re: Test Script

Hi,

It recommends you to use Zend version of vBSEO, but you need to upgrade Zend version in this case.

If you don't want/cannot install recent zend optimizer, you may still use Ioncube version of vBSEO

Re: Test Script

Thanks Oleg. Would I see a larger hit on server performance by not using Zend? Tech support is a hassle to deal with.

Re: Test Script

The test we've done have not shown any noticable difference in performance.

Re: Test Script

Cool. Just for giggles, why is Zend recommended over Ioncube then?

And maybe for another thread, but what kind of performance hit might I expect to see on a moderately travelled forum with ~200 folks online (members and guests) when loads are very low now averaging about 0.30?

Since you have Zend Optimizer already installed, it is assumed that you prefer it.

I couldn't say this, because performance depends too much on MANY factors, including the versions of OS Kernel, Apache, PHP, MySQL and the settings for each of these components. I don't even mention hardware config.

However I assure you that a lot of our efforts were focused on the performance and currently there is no significant load increase in the most cases after installing vBSEO.

Re: Test Script

Hello Reefland and welcome to the forums,

If you are averaging .30 with around 200 users online, I'd expect a slight increase in server load, maybe somewhere around .35-.40 (at peak times). Of course this varies from server to server. However, we've been able to minimize the performance impact for bigger (or overloaded) servers by making some changes in the httpd.conf file. With this approach (and at your current numbers), I would expect a negligible increase in serverload. Please pm me for more info. on the httpd.conf approach, various big-board admins are using this alternative.
